Cheers to That: Game of Thrones is Back. pt. IV

Swords, kings and now dragons. We are at the last installment of our cocktail series inspired by HBO’s saga Game of Thrones. Check out our previous three menus here: Part I, Part II, and Part III.¬†For our final post we toast to the fire breathers themselves, the infamous dragons belonging to the newly ascended Dothraki queen, Daenerys Targaryen. We hope it’s a fitting end that leaves you burning for more.

What’s not to love about¬†Daenerys Targaryen? She’s loving, kind and just. Yet she’s firm, determined and ballsy enough to go from being exhiled from her own country to commanding one of the feircest peoples of Westros, the Dothraki’s. Plus she walked into fire to retrive her dragon babys once she hatched them by placing them on the funeral pyer of her warrior husband. Badass. For her cocktail, we take a traditional Dragon Lady add a dash of cayenne in honor of her spitfire spirit and use whatelse but dragonfruit to make a big impression.

The Dragon Lady ala Daenerys
2 ounce vodka
1 ounce mango juice
1/2 ounce lime juice
1/2 ounce triple sec
Fresh dragon fruit, cubed
Dash cayenne

Place the vodka, juices and triple sec in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a chilled glass, add dragonfruit cubes and enjoy.

Ser Jorah Mormont is a unique character in the Game of Thrones pantheon. He’s a knight who’s been sworn to protect Daenerys Targaryen. And while he is deft with his sword, he’s more inclined to use his words and his pragmatic demeanor to discuss a conflict to a resolution than slice his way to it. He’s water to Daenerys’ fire. And because this classic cocktail is stirred but never shaken, we think it’s quite appropriate.

The Diplomat
1 1/2 oz. dry vermouth
1 1/2 oz. sweet vermouth
1 dash marachino liquer
1 dash angostur bitters

Combine ingredients in a mixing glass with ice. Stir and strain into a cocktail glass.
Garnish with a cherry.

When we first met these guys they were petrified little embryo’s stuck inside eggs that had turned to stones after many years of being kept as artifacts. They were given to Daenerys as wedding gifts. She used fire to hatch all three of them, taught them to spray fire on command when they were the size of tiny birds and now, in season three, they are as big as dogs. We call this cocktail The Three Dragons because it has three spirits: vodka for crispness, tequila for bite and mezcal for a bit of smoke. Add in a touch of floral St. Germain to complement the tropical dragon fruit and you have a cocktail that is balanced and fierce.

The Three Dragons
1 oz white tequila
1/2 ounce mezcal
1/2 ounce vodka
1/2 ounce St Germaine
2 tablespoons fresh dragon fruit, plus a slice for garnish
Juice from half a lime
1/2 ounce simple syrup

Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well then pour into a double rocks glass.
Garnish with the dragon fruit slice and enjoy.
